New Car Suzuki Swift S-Concept - 2012
Behold the Suzuki Swift S-Concept, the Japanese company’s big news from the 2011 Geneva auto show. It's not so much a concept as a look at the form a high-performance Swift could take. The diminutive Swift, about the size of a Mini Cooper, has been a success in Europe, and Suzuki has said the newest version of the car was engineered to meet U.S. regulations. That doesn't mean, of course, that we actually will get it, let alone a sportier version like this show car.

Based on the latest Swift, which debuted last year at the Paris auto show, the S-Concept gets an appearance package that will delight rally-car enthusiasts and make the rest of the world think, "Damn punk."

The car is lowered on stiffer springs, and its wider fenders accommodate a 2.4-inch stretch in width. Front and rear bumpers adorned with slats and a Ferrari-like exhaust and diffuser add to the pint-sized hatch’s menace. Oh, and it's yellow. A yellow that, along with the grey highlights, Suzuki says was inspired by "an athlete's running shoes.”

Inside the S-Concept is a race-car-inspired steering wheel with an "up" marker band in yellow. Behind the wheel are two sport seats that look like they were pulled from a Lotus Evora or Porsche 911 GT3.

The engine is derived from the previous generation Swift Sport’s. In that application, the 1.6-liter four-cylinder made 123 hp and 109 lb-ft of torque, but Suzuki is mum on the concept’s output. Doesn't sound like it will be too Swift until it gets a bit more horsepower.
